In 2021, KALDEWEI was the first sanitary company to sign the “Science Based Targets” and set out to produce in a climate-neutral way. With the new KALDEWEI Limited Edition nature protect made from CO2-reduced steel, KALDEWEI has come a big step closer to this goal. And partners in the construction industry also benefit from this, because with KALDEWEI nature protect bathroom solutions, construction projects have a significantly lower CO2 footprint. For several years, KALDEWEI has been supporting the WWF marine conservation programme which is devoted to reducing plastic waste in our oceans. This is done out of responsibility towards the environment and the following generations.

KALDEWEI is a German family company that has been creating bathroom solutions combining modern luxury with sustainable thinking, management and action for over 100 years and which is now in its fourth generation. The company describes this global strategic orientation with the term “Luxstainability®”. The KALDEWEI portfolio includes bathtubs, shower surfaces and washbasins made from exquisite steel enamel. This material impresses with its high-quality surfaces, elegant design, lifelong durability and 100 percent circularity.

Our environmental & social impact stories

  • Chemicals

All of Kaldewei's product families are compliant with EU’s regulation on REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals), ensuring that no hazardous substances circulate or end up in the environment and are free of toxins and pollutants for users.

  • Human Rights/DEI

Policies are in place against Forced Labor, Child Labor, Discrimination, and for Freedom of Association.

  • Distribution

Products are transported using carriers that are SmartWay certified, which includes tracking carbon emissions from transportation and showing continuous improvement.

  • Health

Kaldewei's product families are inherently free of VOC emitting materials and can be cleaned without harsh chemicals.

  • Materials

Kaldewei is the only bathroom manufacturer that has developed the enamel formula itself and produces the enamel in its own melting furnace. When manufacturing their steel enamel, Kaldewei tries to use as much recycling as possible. The enamel slip used consists of approximately 9% pre-consumer recycled enamel slip, which is generated by collecting the overspray in filter dust containers and waste water agitators, contributing to the total recycled content in the product.

  • Packaging

Kaldewei's packaging is comprised of 94% post-consumer cardboard and 2% bio-based wood. The interior packaging is partially recyclable/reusable and the exterior is 100% recyclable. Packaging has also been optimized to reduce/minimize excess by replacing plastic corner protection with cardboard solutions and using paper/carton instead of, as an example, Expanded Polystyrene (EPS foam) to protect their wash basins.

  • Manufacturing

KALDEWEI’s Reduced Carbon Steel product families are made with KALDEWEI Low Carbon Footprint Steel (KLCFS). With this material, the end product has an almost 70% less CO2 footprint according to the GHG Protocol.

  • Facilities

The design of Kaldewei’s Asymmetric Duo 742 (approx 1800 X 900mm) to a comparable cast iron model or composite stone tub, uses 52-69% less water to create an optimal bath experience, reducing overall water consumption and allowing the facility to save over 1.3 to 1.8 million liters of water over the course of a year, thereby also reducing energy required to heat the water.

  • End of Use

All of KALDEWEI’s steel enamel products are 100% recyclable.
